Item description:

This captivating circa 1900 Turn Of The Century Edwardian octagonal ring comprises a large cushion emerald cut rectangular shaped 4.10 Carat natural Burma Mogok sapphire centerpiece surrounded by a cluster of round old European diamonds. The fine antique Burmese sapphire has been thoroughly inspected by an HRD certified gemologis and was confirmed to be natural and most certainly from the Mogok mine region. We have not sent the stone for another lab report as we consider it potentially bad for the integrity of the jewel if the stone is unmounted, which is usually the case with some of the lab's requirements. Nevertheless, the stone is guaranteed natural sapphire of a fine Burmese Mogok origin. The large 4.10 carat Burma sapphire measures 12x8.5x4.5mm and is millegrain set into delicate platinum border. The sapphire possesses a magnificent deep Royal Blue color and superb clarity. It shows some typical surface wear to some of its edges and corners which could be easily repolished, but in order to do so, one needs to unmount it from its millegrain platinum setting. Surrounding this fine natural Burma sapphire centerpiece into an octagonal cluster, there are 14 round Old European diamonds of equal sizes. The diamonds ahve average diameters of 3.5mm and total estimated diamond weight of about 2.50 carats. All diamonds possess superbly white general G-H color and average VS2-SI1 clarity. The base of the ring is finely crafted in pierced platinum with intervening and intersecting embroidery like design that goes from its edges towards the inner sides of the shank. The top face of the ring measures 20x16.5mm (0.8"x0.65") and its gross weight is 6.8 grams. Ring size is 55 (US size 7 1/4 / UK size O) and although unmarked, was most likely crafted in France or Switzerland. It is important to note that natural sapphires of this color, quality and origin are usually considered very rare and fetch many tens of thousands of dollars per carat. Absolutely scarce antique jewelry collector piece and one of the rare turn of the century Edwardian Burma sapphire rings and jewels in general.
